5 Weight Loss Myths - Are You Doing This Too?

There is a lot of fact and fiction out there on how to lose weight. The best thing is to follow a healthy weight loss diet plan, but you may still be operating under some of these myths and that can prevent you from losing weight.

1. Myth: Snacking Is Always a Bad Idea

Actually snacking can be a good thing. To lose weight it is better to follow a healthy weight loss diet plan which includes eating less at each meal and adding a snack or two between meals to alleviate hunger. Dietitians have long recommend a healthy weight loss diet which includes five smaller meals a day, instead of eating your calories all in one sitting.

But watch out for the "energy bars" and "diet bars" out there. Not all are created equal and some are worse than candy bars, so ready your labels and know what you are eating. The key is to not only eat less overall, but follow a healthy weight loss diet. So if you are consuming snacks, be sure you are eating less at your meals too.

2. Myth: No More Fast Food

You've sworn off the double cheeseburgers, fries, sodas, and apple pies, which is great, but you don't have to avoid fast food all together to stay on your healthy weight loss diet. You just have to make better choices and know what you are eating. Choose grilled over fried and skip the sauces or dressings.

Remember, know what you are eating. Restaurants are notorious for adding lots of extra calories to otherwise healthy meals to make it taste better and sell better. Some dishes may look healthier, but you may as well of had a bacon cheeseburger. Check the internet and do some searching before you go so you know ahead of time what to order. This makes it easier to stick to you healthy weight loss diet plan.

3. Myth: Take this pill to lose weight

Oh, if only it were that easy. We would all be thin and beautiful (oh wait...beauty is another pill). Look the sales pitch sounds great, and you sometimes will get temporary results. But it is only temporary. As soon as you stop taking the pill, or your body gets used to it, you begin to gain weight. And sometimes you can make yourself sick with some of these pills. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, a healthy weight loss diet and exercise are your answers.

4. Myth: Carbs Are All Bad

All Carbohydrates get a bad reputation because everyone throws them in the same category. The truth is all carbs are not created equal, and you want to avoid processed carbs that are often high in sugar and white flour. Instead, enjoy beans, whole grains like brown rice and whole grain breads and don't forget fruits and vegetables, which provide a lot of nutrients and fiber, are low in calories, and can help reduce the risks of several diseases.

Keep in mind, the body also uses carbs as fuel during exercise to burn body fat, another great reason keep good carbs in your healthy weight loss diet.

5. Myth: Weight Loss Without Diet.

The goal is to take in less calories than you are putting out (diet and exercise). But exercise alone will not accomplish this for you. If you want to lose weight, you need to combine both diet and exercise. If you've been going to the gym forever and not noticing any positive changes, fix your diet. Sometimes people find it helpful to follow a healthy weight loss diet plan to keep them on track.
